About Age Calculator

Age is counted in calendar terms rather than fixed-length units, so the calculator walks forward whole years and months before counting the remaining days. That is why an age can be five years and zero months on a birthday.

Leap years are handled properly, so birthdays on February 29 and ages that span leap years come out right. For counting days between any two dates, use the Date Difference Calculator.

Planet ages divide your age in Earth years by each planet's orbit: Mercury 0.241 years, Venus 0.615, Mars 1.881, Jupiter 11.862 and Saturn 29.457. Milestone dates count whole days from your birth date, so 10,000 days old falls about 27 years and 5 months after you were born.

How the exact age is counted

The calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the leftover days. If the day of the month has not come around yet, it borrows the days from the previous month. Born March 20 and checking on May 10? That is 1 month and 20 days, because April has 30 days. Total days count every calendar day, including leap days.

  • Common mistake: subtracting birth year from the current year. That is a year too high if your birthday has not happened yet this year.
  • Common mistake: using 365 days per year. Over 40 years that ignores about 10 leap days.
