About Fuel Cost Calculator
The calculation is distance divided by economy, times price. A 300-mile trip in a 30 MPG car burns 10 gallons; at $3.60 a gallon that is $36. The metric form inverts the economy figure: litres per 100 km multiplied by distance divided by 100.
Real-world economy is usually worse than the sticker figure. Cold weather, roof racks, under-inflated tires and highway speeds above about 65 mph all cost measurable fuel, so padding the estimate by ten percent is sensible for budgeting.
