About Rock Paper Scissors
Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock. With a genuinely random opponent no strategy can beat a one-in-three win rate, which is exactly why the game is used for quick, fair decisions.
Against people it is a different story. Humans are poor random generators: beginners open with rock more often than chance, and players tend to repeat a winning throw and switch after a loss. That predictability is what competitive players exploit.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the computer random?
- Yes, each throw is drawn independently at random, so no pattern can be exploited.
- What happens on a tie?
- The round is replayed and does not count toward either score.
- Can I change the series length?
- Yes, pick best of three, five or seven before you start.
