About Discount Calculator
This discount calculator finds the sale price after one or two discounts, plus tax if you add a rate. Stacked discounts do not simply add up: 30% off followed by another 20% off is not 50% off, because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price, giving 44% off in total.
The calculator applies tax after both discounts, on the discounted price, which matches how most checkouts work. So a coupon reduces the tax you pay as well as the price itself. For example, a $100 item with 30% off then 20% off comes to $56, a 44% total saving, before any tax is added.

- The second discount applies to the already-discounted price, not the original, so the combined effect is 44% off, not 50%.
- Is tax applied before or after the discount?
- After. This calculator applies tax to the price once both discounts are taken off, which is how most checkouts calculate it.
