About Currency Converter

Rates shown are mid-market reference rates: the midpoint between what buyers and sellers are quoting. It is the rate you see in the news and the fairest benchmark to compare against.

You will rarely get the mid-market rate yourself. Banks and card networks add a margin, typically between half a percent and three percent, and airport bureaux are worse. Comparing an offered rate against the mid-market rate is the quickest way to see what a conversion actually costs you.

Frequently asked questions

How often are rates updated?
Rates refresh regularly through the day, and the time of the rate used is shown with the result.
Why is my bank's rate different?
Banks add a margin to the mid-market rate. That spread is their fee for the exchange.
Can I use this for accounting?
Use it as a guide. For official records, use the rate your bank or tax authority specifies.
